Fantasy Football: Draft advice for Green Bay Packers at each position
Running back
When Mike McCarthy said the Packers would be taking on a running back-by-committee approach, the value of each of Green Bay’s running backs dropped significantly for fantasy. Back then, I said Aaron Jones was the Packers’ running back to take a risk on, and while he’s still worth picking up in the later rounds, Jamaal Williams is the best choice right now.
As I wrote earlier this week, the fact Williams is set to be named the team’s starting running back and will potentially take on a strong workload should increase his stock in fantasy. Should. His ADP hasn’t yet caught up.
According to Fantasy Football Calculator, Williams is going in the seventh round. Taking him there might not feel like the safest pick, but his upside is tremendous. In the seventh round, you could potentially land a starting running back (a talented one, too) in one of the league’s top offenses. Just look how valuable Eddie Lacy was in fantasy a few years ago, and Ty Montgomery more recently.
Williams is a powerful runner, he will be used on the goal line, he can block and he can catch passes. As long as he stays healthy, the second-year back will be a key part of the Packers’ offense.
While everyone else remains confused about the Packers’ backfield, be sure to draft Williams, who is being completely undervalued.
Jones is worth picking up late on if he’s still there if you have the space on your bench.
