2. Aaron Jones

In his second game back from suspension, Aaron Jones did even more to prove he deserves to be the lead back.

Jones had 65 yards on 11 carries and a touchdown, while also carrying for the longest gain on the ground so far (30 yards). Jones showed decisive cuts and the quickness into the holes. He also showed he is much improved in blitz pickup. On second-and-12, Jones hauled in a screen pass, waited for his linemen to get in front and made the perfect read to gain 17 yards and a first down.

The offense just seems to flow better when Jones is in the game. I don’t know what it will take for Coach McCarthy to see that too. Although his snaps increased this week from last, it still wasn’t as much as it should be.

McCarthy and the coaching staff could be trying to use all three backs and save the wear and tear a season can bring. But even with that in mind, Jones should have more than 12 touches. For the second week in a row, Jones proved he was the difference maker between the three backs.

Jamaal Williams also had 11 carries in the game, though his production (27 yards) wasn’t close to Jones’.

Jones’ light work load may have to change this coming weekend. Randall Cobb and Geronimo Allison are dealing with injuries, so it may be down to Jimmy Graham, Davante Adams (who is also on the injury report) and a cast of rookies.
