12. San Francisco 49ers

Can the 49ers take the next step and compete in the NFC West this season? To do so, they’ll need Jimmy Garoppolo to play well. The good news is he’s fully healthy after missing the majority of 2018 with a torn ACL. A backfield featuring Tevin Coleman and Matt Breida is exciting, although the 49ers did lose Jerick McKinnon to injured reserve.

11. Detroit Lions

The Lions will be able to win games with their defense in 2019 after signing Trey Flowers and Mike Daniels. Offensively, Detroit underachieved in 2018 and will need to be much better. The Lions have a talented roster, but they play in a tough division. This feels like a seven- or eight-win team.

10. Carolina Panthers

The Panthers watched a 6-2 start fall apart last season, losing seven of their final eight games. The good news is that Cam Newton is healthy, and he makes the Panthers a contender in the NFC South. The NFC South features three serious playoff contenders, and the Panthers should be in the mix this year as long as Newton is healthy.

9. Seattle Seahawks

Last season proved why we should never write off the Seahawks. Despite losing a lot of talent on defense, they won 10 games and made the playoffs. Their defense should be improved in 2019, especially after trading for edge rusher Jadeveon Clowney last week.
