Stock up: Jaire Alexander

I’m running out of superlatives for Jaire Alexander. The Packers’ second-year cornerback is quickly becoming a superstar and he was all over the field on Sunday. Alexander reads the game well, he’s fast to the football and consistently makes important plays. Alexander made three tackles and a team-high two pass defenses, but the box score doesn’t highlight just how well he played.

One of those pass breakups saved a touchdown. Alexander had good coverage on Stefon Diggs, and he reached up to stop the pass in the end zone.

Alexander did make a mistake on Diggs’ 45-yard touchdown catch. He had excellent coverage and came close to making an interception. Somehow, he missed the ball and Diggs made the catch. Alexander said after the game that he lost the ball in the sun. Nine times out of 10, he’d make that play. The former first-round pick also dropped another potential interception earlier in the game.

While his day could’ve been even better, the two plays he missed still show how he continues to get in great positions and is excellent in coverage. It’s particularly impressive to see how quickly he reads the offense and is fast to make the play.

Alexander is a future All-Pro, and performances like this one show why.
