3. Marquez Valdes-Scantling

Davante Adams didn’t have a great game. Broncos head coach Vic Fangio designed his defense to take away the Packers’ best receiver. Someone had to step up, and MVS did.

Marquez Valdes-Scantling finished the game with six catches for 99 yards and a touchdown. His impact was felt right away from the first series of the game. After Bradley Chubb jumped offside, Rodgers threw one of his patented deep balls and hit MVS in the end zone for a 40-yard touchdown.

MVS was needed in this game. Outside of Adams and MVS, only one other player had more than one reception. That was running back Jamaal Williams. MVS was not without his flaws; he dropped what would have been a key first down in the third quarter, but he was the playmaker the Packers needed to win the game.

As Rodgers gets more comfortable in the offense, I’m certain other players’ roles will expand. The team will need them to. The games are going to get tougher and quarterbacks better. The offense will need to put together better games. For now at least, the Packers seem to have found a legitimate deep threat to help take the tops off of defenses.
