Packers vs. Chiefs: Tale of the tape for Week 8 matchup
Quarterbacks
Aaron Rodgers
Coming off one of, if not the best game of his career, Aaron Rodgers is looking like an MVP candidate. He threw for 429 yards, five touchdowns, rushed for another, and “the belt” made an appearance. What was so impressive about this game is that he had a perfect 158.3 passer rating, which you would have thought he’s had before, considering he has the highest career passer rating in NFL history.
After his record day, Rodgers now has moved up to fifth in the league in passing yards with 2,019. He is also fifth passing touchdowns with 13 on the year. He is just two off of the Russell Wilson, the league leader with 15.
After a slow start for Rodgers and this offense, he has been on a tear these past few games, and that’s been without his top receiver, Davante Adams. He’s been getting it done with Marquez Valdes-Scantling and a bunch of former undrafted players. Ever since Adams was injured, Rodgers and this offense have been on a tear. Just imagine how good Rodgers could potentially look when Adams comes back into the fold.
Matt Moore*
I’m putting an asterisk here because all the reports indicate Mahomes won’t be ready to play by Sunday, but Mahomes is a freak it would surprise me if he played, but I wouldn’t be totally blown out of the water either. The Chiefs already dodged a bullet with Mahomes potentially missing just a few weeks. I can’t see them risking a worse injury just so he can play against the Packers. They are smarter than that.
I’m assuming the Packers are getting ready to face Matt Moore, who just this offseason was on the outs with football and was actually scouting for the Miami Dolphins. I’m sure when he signed with the Chiefs, he didn’t actually think he would see the field, but when he needed to come in on Thursday night, he still looked pretty good. He threw for 117 yards and a touchdown, helping lead the Chiefs to a 30-6 victory over the Broncos.
Moore is nowhere near the player that Mahomes is, but then again, neither is Derek Carr, and he was getting essentially whatever he wanted against the Packers defense with just Darren Waller. Moore will have more weapons than the Raiders did.
No matter how the Packers’ defense looked last week against the Raiders, I would take Rodgers over almost anyone in the league right now.
