Packers 2020 three-round mock draft: Linebacker, receiver in early rounds
Round 3 (94): Thaddeus Moss, TE, LSU
The Packers have been unable to successfully address the tight end position despite attempting each and every offseason since 2016. There could be more turnover at the position this offseason with Marcedes Lewis and Robert Tonyan hitting free agency, while Jimmy Graham might not be back despite having a year remaining on his contract.
The only player certain to be on the roster next season is Jace Sternberger, a third-round pick in 2019. Sternberger has a ton of potential as a pass-catching tight end in LaFleur’s offense and should be given a bigger role next season.
Thaddeus Moss could become the perfect complement to Sternberger.
Moss is an excellent blocker, something the Packers will need if Lewis isn’t re-signed. And while his potential as a receiver might not be sky-high, he could certainly become a reliable target for Aaron Rodgers. Moss excels at making contested catches and, according to Pro Football Focus, he didn’t drop a single pass in 2019.
Moss, the son of Hall-of-Fame wide receiver Randy Moss, caught 47 passes for 570 yards and four touchdowns this season.
Depending on the futures of Lewis and Graham, tight end could become a big need for the Packers. Moss has the potential to become an excellent player in the NFL and he could be a good complement to Sternberger in LaFleur’s offense.
