Lane Taylor and Jimmy Graham

These two players seem the most obvious and talked about so far this offseason. But they are still Packers right now and still qualify for this article.

Lane Taylor

Lane Taylor was a solid guard for the Packers since 2013, whether he was a backup or a starter. He was expected to be the starter at left guard this past season but was put on IR early in the year after he tore his left bicep. Rookie Elgton Jenkins stepped in and played extremely well. So well, that I’m sure many Packers fans even forgot about Taylor.

Now that he is entering the final season of his contract, he looks to be expendable. According to Spotrac, Taylor has a cap hit of almost $6 million. By cutting Taylor, the Packers would be able to free up some much-needed cap space that will have otherwise gone to a backup offensive lineman.

Jimmy Graham

It’s no secret that Jimmy Graham hasn’t lived up to expectations when he was signed. He is currently the highest-paid tight end in the NFL, making an average of $10 million per year. This season, his cap hit would be $11.66 million. In his two years in Green Bay, he averaged about 47 catches, 542 yards and 2.5 touchdowns per season. It’s tough to justify paying an aging tight end who struggled to produce in each of the last two seasons with Aaron Rodgers.

With reports coming out of the Packers wanting to take a run at Austin Hooper, the writing seems to be on the wall for Graham. I think we’ve seen the last of Jimmy in a Packers uniform.
