The Packers will likely be in the market for a pass catcher in free agency, and that could mean they target one of the best available wide receivers. That said, they shouldn’t sign Breshad Perriman.

Perriman put in a few dominant performances late in the 2019 season which could raise his value in free agency. However, signing him would be a risky move.

Despite Perriman’s success late in the year, he failed to make an impact in two years with the Baltimore Ravens and then in 2018 with the Cleveland Browns.

That’s not to say Perriman couldn’t be a good addition to the Packers offense. Averaging just under 19 yards per reception over the past two seasons, Perriman is a deep threat, which the Packers desperately need.

But for the price they might have to pay to sign him, this move would be a risky one. Spotrac estimates Perriman’s market value to be $8.7 million a year. That’s a big contract for a player who has only surpassed 500 yards in a single season once. He was a great third option for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2019 and stepped up following injuries to Mike Evans and Chris Godwin, but could he become a consistent receiver in the Packers offense?

It’s possible the answer is yes, but the Packers would need to overpay to take that gamble.
