Packers three-round mock draft: Quarterback edition
Round 1 (30): Jordan Love, QB, Utah State
In this scenario, Utah State’s Jordan Love was the quarterback to fall to No. 30 overall. Unless the Packers absolutely love (no pun intended) a quarterback in this draft, they shouldn’t trade up like the Kansas City Chiefs did to get Patrick Mahomes. Instead, they should wait it out until they hit the clock.
Love is certainly a player to watch on draft day. What if he is still on the board when the Packers are scheduled to make their first pick? Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reported the Packers are among several teams to have spoken with Love, with a “virtual visit” taking place instead of a pre-draft visit due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Investing a first-round pick in Love would be a move for the future, but one that could pay off three years or so down the line, whenever the time to find a new starter comes. Kyle Crabbs of The Draft Network wrote that he has “franchise quarterback qualities” and has a “Pro Bowl ceiling”. Crabbs also noted the importance of patience.
Love would need time to learn before being made the starter down the line. That’s what potentially makes Green Bay the ideal landing spot for the Utah State quarterback.
