4. Bring back Tramon Williams

Brian Gutekunst said before the draft said that they could still bring back Tramon Williams. After not drafting a cornerback, there is still a huge question mark at the slot position, Williams’ main role in 2019. He was a consistent part of the secondary as he always has been, but if he’s not re-signed, it’s unclear who would take over the role. Chandon Sullivan might be the top candidate, but depth at cornerback would become a real concern. Especially with Kevin King entering a contract year.

Jim Owczarski of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reported the Packers have signed undrafted free agent Stanford Samuels. While he can add some depth at cornerback, the Packers would still need someone who can start games and play a number of snaps right away.

Re-signing Williams wouldn’t give the Packers their long-term answer at cornerback but it would push the problem down the road and help them in 2020. He is still a good player as he showed last season, and he also doesn’t need to start every game with King and Jaire Alexander the top two corners on the roster.

Last season, Williams played in all 16 regular-season games, making seven starts. And with eight pass defenses and two interceptions, he played an important role in Green Bay’s pass defense. Williams is a locker-room leader and has been part of a championship-winning team back in 2010.

After not drafting a cornerback, the Packers should bring back Williams.
