Packers: Predicting Week 1 starters at each position in 2020
Offensive line
David Bakhtiari, Elgton Jenkins, Corey Linsley, Lane Taylor, Rick Wagner
From left tackle to center, there are no doubts about who will be starting. Left tackle David Bakhtiari, left guard Elgton Jenkins, and center Corey Linsley all ranked inside the top 10 at their respective positions in ESPN’s pass block win rate metric in 2019. Bakhtiari and Linsley both led the NFL at their positions.
New signing Rick Wagner is the clear favorite to replace Bryan Bulaga at right tackle, but the biggest training camp battle along the offensive line will be at right guard. It will be a competition between last season’s Week 1 starters at the two guard spots: Billy Turner and Lane Taylor. I’m going with Taylor, who has a lot of starting experience for the Packers at guard. With Jenkins on the left side, Taylor will shift to right guard.
Defensive line
Kenny Clark, Dean Lowry, Tyler Lancaster
If Green Bay’s defense is going to get stronger against the run, they’ll need to rely on almost the exact same defensive line. Up against a run-first Vikings offense, I have them starting three defensive linemen in Week 1.
New signing Treyvon Hester could start, but for now, I’m going with the trio of Kenny Clark, Dean Lowry, and Tyler Lancaster. The Packers will be hoping both Lowry and Lancaster can improve from last season.
