Running backs (4) – 10/53

With the Packers keeping three quarterbacks, it would be difficult to fit five running backs into the 53-man roster. The top four looks set with Aaron Jones, Jamaal Williams, and rookie AJ Dillon splitting the majority of the carries, and Tyler Ervin making the roster for his special teams value. He can also play some snaps on offense whether lined up in the backfield or out wide.

With roster sizes being reduced to 80 players and the practice squad being increased to 16 players, it seems less likely the Packers will keep more than four running backs, but more likely a backup RB like Dexter Williams lands on the practice squad.

Running backs on the roster bubble could have fewer opportunities to make an impact this summer, especially with no preseason games being played.

But what the Packers have is strong depth. Jones led the NFL in rushing touchdowns last season and should continue his role as the featured back, while Williams and Dillon will compete for snaps.

LaFleur’s offense needs good depth at the running back position, which is exactly what the Packers have this year. Four RBs make the 53, which means Dexter Williams, Damarea Crockett, and Patrick Taylor all miss out.
