Packers: 3 potential landing spots for Aaron Jones in free agency
By Cody Young
The Miami Dolphins would be a great fit for the current Packers running back
Team #3: Miami Dolphins
The Dolphins are one of those teams who you can expect to see at the top of a lot of lists similar to this one. They have a little bit of everything, whether it be cap space or resources to use in trades.
I think this makes sense for Aaron Jones to sign here because not only does Miami have cap space but they are also a team that is in win-now mode. They have some questions at the QB position for sure but they have also been at the forefront of Deshaun Watson trade rumors.
Getting Watson would certainly accelerate their Super Bowl window to right now and signing a weapon like Jones would maybe put them over the top. Running backs are always considered a dime a dozen in the NFL but people who cover the Packers can tell you that Jones is a legit offensive weapon.
He’s one of the best dual-threat backs in the league and the demand for receiving backs are currently at an all-time high. The Dolphins found a quality running back in Miles Gaskin last season but Jones is one of the best backs in the league and would be an instant upgrade at the position.
It will be sad to see Aaron Jones leave the Packers but I think that it is an inevitability due to what he will command. Tie that in with Green Bay drafting an RB in the second round in last year’s draft makes it more of a certainty in my eyes. There will certainly be a number of teams interested in the star RB but I think these spots make a lot of sense.
