It’s pretty clear what the Packers’ top need is this offseason. Watch a few minutes from the NFC Championship Game and it’s glaringly obvious. Finding a starting partner for Jaire Alexander at cornerback should be priority number one for GM Brian Gutekunst in the coming weeks, especially if Kevin King isn’t re-signed.

Doubling-down in the draft would be a good move, but to expect a rookie cornerback to come in and make an instant impact as a starter is a risky approach to take. If the Packers can get some short-term help in free agency, they should do everything they can to make it happen.

Is Patrick Peterson still playing the best football of his career? No, but he’s still a very talented player who could be an ideal No. 2 corner for the Packers. He’s an eight-time Pro Bowler and three-time All-Pro. Peterson knows what it takes to be one of the best cornerbacks in football year in, year out.

Alexander is coming off an All-Pro season and improves every year. He will be Green Bay’s top corner for years to come. With the experience of Peterson on the other side of the field, the Packers could have a dominant cornerback duo.
