Round 1 (15): Jaycee Horn, CB, South Carolina

It may have been expensive to move up this far in the draft, but it’s well worth it with Jaycee Horn still on the board. A potential future star at the cornerback position, the Packers address their biggest need with one of the top two corners in the class. Horn can provide immediate help in the secondary and has the potential to become one of the best at his position in the league.

It was important to jump ahead of the Arizona Cardinals and Las Vegas Raiders, two teams potentially in the mix for a cornerback. Besides, it’s Jaycee Horn. He wasn’t going to be available for much longer.

According to Pro Football Focus, Horn allowed a completion percentage of just 33 percent in his coverage last season, the lowest in the SEC.

Tony Pauline of Pro Football Network believes Horn “has all the necessary tools to develop into a No. 1 cornerback on Sundays”. It’s hard to argue that.

A pairing of Horn and All-Pro Jaire Alexander would be simply unfair on opposing offenses and would easily give the Packers one of the top CB duos in football.

Defensive coordinator Joe Barry could pick the matchups he likes. With two cornerbacks talented enough to be the No. 1, Barry could determine which WR-CB matchups he likes best, knowing both are more than capable of shutting down talented receivers.

It costs the Packers a future first, but for a team in win-now mode, let’s do it.
