Round 3 (92): Marcus Jones, CB, Houston

Playmaker. That word best describes Houston cornerback Marcus Jones.

But before we discuss what he could bring to the Packers’ defense, let’s talk about what he can do for the special teams. Jones could turn one of the worst return games in the NFL into the best. That’s how good he is.

Last season alone, Jones had four return touchdowns, two on kicks and two on punts. He averaged 34 yards per kick return and 14.4 yards on punt returns. In four years at college, Jones had a total of nine return touchdowns. Simply incredible.

For that reason alone, the Packers should be interested in drafting him. Special teams was undoubtedly a disaster for Green Bay this season, so adding a player who can help dramatically improve the return game would be huge.

Jones’ size might cause him to fall in the draft — he is 5-foot-8, 185 pounds, according to Sports Reference. But that doesn’t mean he can’t contribute on defense. Last season, Jones had an impressive 13 pass defenses and five interceptions for Houston.

While he did play a lot on the outside, he will most likely be best suited to play in the slot in the NFL.

Some even believe Houston could play on offense.

The Packers would need to find the best role for him, but while they do that, they know they’ve dramatically improved their return game. Whatever role he would have in Green Bay, Jones is a playmaker.
