Packers free agency predictions 2022: Who re-signs, who is gone?
Kevin King: Walks
It’s time for the Packers to move on from cornerback Kevin King. Unfortunately, the same was true a year ago. A lack of cornerback depth is one reason why they could consider re-signing him, but they should look elsewhere.
King has struggled to stay healthy through his career in Green Bay, never featuring in every game in the regular season. The former second-round pick missed seven games in 2021.
When King did play, he struggled. According to Pro Football Reference, King gave up a 71.4 completion percentage, 12.9 yards per completion, and a passer rating of 108.9 in his coverage. King was outplayed by rookie Eric Stokes and in-season signing Rasul Douglas, eventually losing snaps as a result.
King started the first six games he played in 2021, but didn’t start any of the final four.
Even if King isn’t re-signed, the Packers will still have to pay $3 million in dead cap. This is a result of the void years added to the deal he signed last offseason.
Over the years, King has been a solid starter for Green Bay but has been unable to stay healthy. And in the past two seasons, he’s been inconsistent. It’s time for the Packers to move on and for King to get a fresh start with a new team.
