Packers three-round mock draft featuring trade for wide receiver
Round 2 (59): Travis Jones, DL, UConn
Another round, another great athlete. The Packers have a type, and UConn defensive tackle Travis Jones fits the bill. Jones has an RAS of 9.4 out of 10. Not only does Jones have the athleticism, he’s also an excellent defensive lineman.
The Packers understand the need to strengthen their defensive line, which is why they signed former second-round pick Jarran Reed in free agency. The work continues here in the draft by selecting Travis Jones. All of a sudden, the Packers’ defensive line could become a strength, with a Pro Bowler in Kenny Clark, the addition of Reed, Dean Lowry coming off his best season, and now Jones.
Where he would most help Green Bay’s defense early on is stopping the run. That’s his biggest strength.
“Jones is an outstanding run defender where his power, mass, and processing skills shine,” writes The Draft Network’s Joe Marino.
Jones could line up at nose tackle in Green Bay’s defense, allowing Kenny Clark to have a greater impact on the game.
The Packers’ defense came on strong late in the 2021 season, finishing with a dominant performance against the San Francisco 49ers in the playoffs. There are some areas of need like edge rusher and defensive tackle, but after the picks made in this mock, they have gone a long way to addressing them.
