Packers trade with Steelers

Here we go. The first of two trades in this mock draft. In the first, the Packers send the second of their Round 2 picks to the Pittsburgh Steelers, with Pro Bowl wide receiver Diontae Johnson going the other way.

Pittsburgh is headed for a rebuild following Ben Roethlisberger’s retirement. Johnson is entering a contract year in 2022. The Steelers used a third-round pick to select Johnson in 2019. To receive a second-rounder three years later is good business.

The Packers get an NFL-ready receiver who can step in and make an impact immediately without needing to rely on a rookie. Johnson isn’t a replacement for Davante Adams, but he helps rebuild the wide receiver corps.

Johnson can help replace many of the receptions the Packers have lost with Adams gone. Johnson had 107 catches in 2021 and 88 in 2020. He’s outstanding at picking up yards after the catch. Last season, 527 of his 1,161 receiving yards came after the catch. He also picked up a first down on 59 of his 107 receptions.

Johnson would thrive in Matt LaFleur’s offense. Get the ball in his hands regularly and watch him force missed tackles and pile up yards after the catch.

A second-team All-Pro in 2019 and a Pro Bowler in 2021, Johnson would be a huge addition to the Packers’ wide receiver corps.
