5 former Packers from Aaron Rodgers era that could help 2022 team
1. WR Jordy Nelson
Wide receiver remains the Packers’ biggest concern ahead of the 2022 season. Imagine we could add prime Jordy Nelson to Matt LaFleur’s offense.
Nelson is one of Aaron Rodgers’ all-time favorite targets. Their incredible chemistry made life miserable for defensive backs. No matter how good the coverage, when Rodgers and Nelson were on the same page, there was no stopping them.
In Green Bay, Nelson was a Pro Bowler, second-team All-Pro, and won NFL Comeback Player of the Year after leading the league in receiving touchdowns just a season after tearing his ACL.
How would Jordy Nelson help 2022 Packers?
WR1.
Green Bay added young talent at receiver this offseason. Christian Watson and Romeo Doubs could become big-time players for this offense in the future. Perhaps even in 2022.
But right now, there is no clear WR1. Allen Lazard, Sammy Watkins, and Randall Cobb are all good players and will contribute, but the Packers lack a star wide receiver.
Imagine Nelson in his prime.
Green Bay’s powerful run game opens up plenty of play-action opportunities, and there was no better sight than Nelson breaking free wide open to receive a play-action pass from Rodgers for a 75-yard touchdown.
Nelson had 7,848 yards and 69 touchdowns in his Packers career. More importantly, he built an unstoppable connection with Aaron Rodgers.
A true WR1 is what this offense currently lacks. If only the 2014 version of Jordy Nelson was on Green Bay’s roster this season.
