7 biggest takeaways from Packers’ loss to Bills in Week 8
Packers’ secondary is massively underperforming
Green Bay’s secondary is supposed to be a strength. It has been anything but this season.
Jaire Alexander had a great game, but he wasn’t given much help from his teammates in the defensive backfield.
Darnell Savage has become a major problem for the Packers’ defense. The former first-round pick continues to miss tackles, and he had another poor attempt trying to tackle Josh Allen on Sunday.
Early in the game, Allen made a move, Savage completely missed and ended up out of bounds.
Unfortunately, Adrian Amos wasn’t much better. The veteran has been a key part of the Packers’ defense in recent years as he rarely makes mistakes. He has had too many this season, including on Isaiah McKenzie’s touchdown run. Amos had a chance to stop him short of a first down, but completely missed the tackle to allow a touchdown.
Second-year cornerback Eric Stokes has also struggled this season after an excellent rookie year. He was briefly pulled from the game, with Keisean Nixon replacing him, although Stokes did return.
In the first half of the season, Green Bay’s secondary has fallen well short of expectations. For a group featuring multiple first-round picks and free-agent additions, it’s not good enough.
