The Green Bay Packers have been a consistent playoff force over the last few years of the Matt LaFleur regime, but with so many of their stalwarts from past teams finding new homes in free agency and the quality of the NFC North around them, this team could just as easily crash to the bottom of the division.
The depth chart is going to be a major pain point at many of the positions that drove fans crazy over the last few years. The Packers brought in some new additions, but there are few in the way of proven difference-makers. Green Bay also has a lack of depth in many areas that used to be strengths for this franchise.
These four position groups will be the talk of the remaining parts of the offseason, especially if the players who are currently locked in as starters begin to falter. These four units will also have an impact on Green Bay's ability to survive without Micah Parsons in the fold.
4 Packers position groups who could face OTA questions
4. Cornerback
Keisean Nixon and Carrington Valentine are not a tremendous starting outside cornerback tandem for a team that needs to go against Justin Jefferson and Amon-Ra St. Brown four times this season. Brandon Cisse developing quicker than many expect him to may be enough to throw a wrench into these plans.
3. Interior Offensive Line
The Packers may not have camp competitions for this role, as it seems like a lock that Aaron Banks at left guard, Sean Rhyan at center, and Anthony Belton at right guard will be the preferred loadout. However, with the former disappointing after signing a big contract and the latter two moving around the line yet again, quality is not guaranteed.
2. Edge Rusher
The Micah Parsons-less room will be perhaps the single biggest non-Jordan Love factor that impacts wins and losses. Lukas Van Ness will need to show that he can play like a first-round pick. If he doesn't, look for Dani Dennis-Sutton or even Edgerrin Cooper lining up outside to fill in the gaps.
1. Running Back
Before the Josh Jacobs legal situation, this running back room was substandard. With this cloud hanging over everyone's head, the situation has become dire. A veteran addition is needed, as the Packers may need to lean on Chris Brooks if Jacobs is going to face some legal consequences or discipline from the league.
