Although the franchise decided to extend head coach Matt LaFleur and general manager Brian Gutekunst, the Green Bay Packers are likely going to look substantially different when it comes to the roster in 2026.

The Packers have a number of critical roster decisions coming up this offseason, including a number of notable draft picks by the team in recent years that could end up being on the outside looking in. As good of a job as the Packers have done at identifying building blocks for this roster through the NFL Draft, you're never going to bat 1.000.

One recent high draft pick for the Packers that could be counting down his final days with the organization is tight end Luke Musgrave, a second-round pick back in the 2023 NFL Draft.

Packers could move on from Luke Musgrave in the 2026 offseason

The idea of trading Luke Musgrave is not a new one for Packers fans. This has been rumored for quite some time, and actually, there have been rumblings that the Packers were actually close to sending Musgrave to the Denver Broncos before the Tucker Kraft injury and loss of Ben Sims on waivers ended up shifting their plans.

Now that the deck is being reshuffled in the offseason, the idea of trading a piece like Musgrave could very well be revisited and would even make a lot of sense.

The Packers are no longer needing to compensate for a loss during the season, so they can look at adding players to their roster all throughout the 2026 offseason and replace someone like Musgrave. As a former second-round pick, Musgrave still carries a bit of value compared to a lot of other players at his position who might not command anything via trade.

With Tucker Kraft coming back this season, and the Packers almost certainly not giving Musgrave any sort of contract extension, it makes the most sense to get what value they can for him and reset the clock with another draft pick (or two) at that position group.

And for a team like the Denver Broncos, the idea of trading for Musgrave has some significant appeal. The Broncos were high on Musgrave in the pre-draft process, and might be interested in taking a shot on his abilities in their offense on a one-year flyer just to see what happens. Their situation is different than Green Bay, where the Packers have an established star in the TE1 spot.

If the rumors are true that the Packers were willing to make a deal for Musgrave during the 2025 season, it seems like it would be a no-brainer for him to be on the block as we enter the offseason where they have a ton of time and options to replace him.
