Well, the Green Bay Packers won't be waiving Kyle McCord before the roster cutdown deadline today. That's because they are reportedly trading him to the Miami Dolphins.
We discussed the possibility of the Dolphins making a move for McCord if the Packers waived him. Miami had moved on from backup quarterback Cam Miller and needed a new No. 2. Now, Packers exec-turned-Dolphins GM Jon-Eric Sullivan has added another player from his former team.
According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, Green Bay will receive a 2028 sixth-round pick for McCord.

It's the definition of a win-win trade. The Dolphins needed a backup quarterback and now add a young player to develop for next to nothing. McCord flashed potential in the preseason and will get a great opportunity in Miami behind Malik Willis.
It also makes a ton of sense for the Packers. They've flipped their No. 3 quarterback for a future draft pick. They likely would've had to cut McCord before Sunday's deadline, and it's unlikely he would've cleared waivers.
Instead, Brian Gutekunst does a deal with his pal Sullivan, and everyone wins.

Before the game had even started, the Packers made Taylor a healthy scratch. That was an immediate sign that he wasn't in any kind of competition for his job, despite struggling in the previous two preseason contests. The QB2 job was his.
But McCord used the game to his advantage, completing 22 of 35 passes for 226 yards and four touchdowns in a thrilling 42-38 preseason victory. It was the perfect performance to show other teams what he could do.
Now, like Sullivan and Jeff Hafley and Malik Willis, McCord heads from Green Bay to "Green Bay South."
