The Green Bay Packers may need to reconsider their plans if they hope to keep Kyle McCord in the building.
It has been assumed that the Packers will waive McCord before Sunday's roster cutdown deadline, with Tyrod Taylor backing up Jordan Love. The Packers' decision to rest Taylor in the preseason finale all but confirms his spot as the No. 2 quarterback. Green Bay doesn't typically roster three passers, but that may need to change.
Beware, the Miami Dolphins.
According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, the Dolphins are waiving quarterback Cam Miller, leaving them without a backup to former Packer Malik Willis. Given the obvious Packers-Dolphins connection, it'd make sense for McCord to be on their radar in South Florida.

In January, the Dolphins hired Packers vice president of player personnel Jon-Eric Sullivan as their next general manager. He was Brian Gutekunst's right-hand man in Green Bay. Sullivan then hired Jeff Hafley as head coach and later signed Malik Willis to be the QB1.
It's why fans have nicknamed the Dolphins "Packers South."
One has to assume McCord will at least be on their radar. He has put together an outstanding preseason for the Packers, throwing for 446 yards and four touchdowns without an interception. He made some true wow throws in the win over the Arizona Cardinals on Friday night.
Taylor is the presumed backup to Love, but he has struggled in August. The 37-year-old has completed only 50 percent of his passes in the preseason at a pedestrian 2.4 yards per attempt.
Here's the issue: Can Green Bay afford to keep three quarterbacks on the 53-man roster? That's never easy to achieve, and it's the kind of move typically reserved for a rookie draft pick who needs time to develop. Love was the Packers' QB3 in 2020, which prevented him from having to play real snaps before he was ready.
That's not the case with McCord, who, at best, would be the Packers' long-term QB2.
The decision Gutekunst must make is whether McCord has done enough to leapfrog Taylor on the depth chart. Green Bay's recent decisions overwhelmingly point against that – Taylor not playing a single snap in the preseason finale says it all.
But the Packers likely hoped McCord would clear waivers and sign back to the practice squad. The Dolphins have potentially changed the calculus.
Gutekunst may need a last-minute reshuffle of his plans if he wants to keep McCord in Green Bay.
