At this point, my favorite NFL rivalry is Aaron Rodgers vs. Adam Schefter. It delivers way more entertainment than any other on-field rivalry, and it only gets pettier by the day. That's what rivalries should be made of.
The latest chapter is especially juicy, although a bit bittersweet. While the world waits ("waits") for Rodgers to decide whether he wants to play for the Steelers or ... the Steelers, Schefter dropped a bit of news on us Wednesday afternoon.

While doing radio with a local ESPN affiliate out of Milwaukee, Schefter speculated that Rodgers' career might be over. Apparently, if the NFL's premier Insider's speculation is to be believed, people around Rodgers aren't even sure he'll come back next season.
It sure doesn't sound like Aaron Rodgers is that stoked about playing football in 2025
"First of all, they both need each other right now, frankly," he said. "That's if – that's if – Aaron wants to play. I'm not convinced that he does. Until I hear him say, 'I want to play,' then I can tell you people are asking that question, about whether he wants to play. It's come up."
"People have said to me, 'Hey, are you sure he wants to play?' No, I'm not sure. I'm hearing he might not want to play. Which, again, by the way, I don't want to speak for him, because I don't want to get called out. We're speculating. It shouldn't be that hard – like, do you want to play for the Steelers or you don't."
The bad news is that Schefter is notoriously, uh, not connected to Rodgers, so this is even more speculative than usual. But would you be all that surprised if he was right? Schefter obviously knows enough people to work around his non-existent relationship with Rodgers, and he's right – it's not like Rodgers has more than one option on the table right now.
Once the Giants decided that *Russell Wilson* was the better option, things got awfully bleak. The longer this drags out, the more it feels like maybe we've seen the last of Rodgers in the NFL.
So if this is it, goodnight, sweet prince. You were insufferable for most of the time, but boy were you a reliable source of web traffic. The clicks will never be the same after this.
