The Green Bay Packers have plenty of young wide receivers to lean on in the 2025 season, but some difficult decisions do seem to be on the horizon. There’s only one football, and with so many mouths to feed, it could just be a matter of time before the Packers have to send someone out of Green Bay in a trade.
But before the Packers do anything drastic, their patience this offseason at the position indicates that they’d like to see what each of their wideouts has to offer this year in training camp.
Health being a key aspect in that endeavor, the Packers got some good news when third-round pick Savion Williams wasn’t named among the players put on the initial physically unable to perform list ahead of training camp.
Packers get encouraging health update on intriguing rookie WR
Williams was limited throughout minicamp, so Packers fans have had to wait patiently to get a solid look at the promising former TCU prospect on the field in Green Bay’s offense. Williams figures to be an intriguing player who can be used in a gadget approach, alleviating Jayden Reed from unnecessary contact as he emerges into a more prominent receiving threat.
In his final year at TCU, Williams caught 60 passes for 611 yards and six scores while also getting 51 carries on the ground for another 322 rushing yards and six more touchdowns, largely out of Wildcat formations. He suffered a torn labrum in the Horned Frog’s final regular-season game, limiting his draft stock and his participation on the field this offseason.

Naturally, if Williams can become a fixture within the offense beyond a typical receiver, that could free up Green Bay from making a drastic move at the position. In his rookie season, it would be reasonable to expect that Matt LaFleur won’t grind him into the ground to take a similar beating as he did in his final college season. In that case, the Packers will have the opportunity to rotate in their promising young wideouts on a situational basis and possibly profit from fresh legs.
Still, with Williams healthy, fans will get to enjoy a sneak peek of what he will bring to the offense in his rookie season once training camp gets started on Wednesday.
