The Green Bay Packers' four-game winning streak was not only snapped, but crushed, emotionally, beneath the news of two star players. Between the injuries to both Micah Parsons and Christian Watson, Green Bay's playoff chances and season outlook took a huge blow.
Speaking of Watson, in particular, the Packers' top wideout left the game early in the third quarter after he went to the ground attempting to make what would've been a huge play on a Jordan Love deep ball. Watson left and did not return, and after the game, head coach Matt LaFleur commented on his status.
Well, sort of.
According to Packers beat writer Ryan Wood, LaFleur told the media that he did not have an update on Watson, but that he did leave the stadium.
Christian Watson's grim injury outlook sets the tone for Packers' rest-of-season urgency
Although LaFleur didn't make a specific comment on Watson's status, we saw elsewhere that things sure don't look good.
NFL insider James Palmer also reported that Watson left in an ambulance, which heightens the severity of the situation at hand.
There is some speculation that Watson's injury was a collarbone and, if that ends up being the case, then his season is very likely done. This is a huge blow to Green Bay's postseason and Super Bowl hopes, as Watson had been on a tear as of late.
Scoring five touchdowns in the past four games, coming into the matchup with Denver, Watson didn't take long to re-establish himself as the Packers' alpha. And, just as it appeared Green Bay's offense was going to get its full slew of wide receivers going at full strength with Jayden Reed back, that dream is now dead.
Watson's injury was, of course, just one of two devastating blows on the day. Parsons, on the other hand, is feared to have suffered a torn ACL, which would be a season-ender as well.
These two injuries couldn't have come at a worse time for Green Bay, as the Packers head to Soldier Field this coming Saturday night to try to sweep the Chicago Bears. And, after the Bears' win over the Cleveland Browns on this very same day, the Packers are now looking up at Chicago in the NFC North.
It was an all-around disaster for the Packers, all things considered. Hopefully, in the coming days, we hear some more positive news on the injury front.
