Rumor has it that Aaron Rodgers and the Pittsburgh Steelers are interested in making a trade at the wide receiver position. It just so happens that the Green Bay Packers may be the deepest team in the league at that position, and getting stronger in the very near future.
The Packers used a first-round pick on wide receiver Matthew Golden this past offseason, a move that undoubtedly hit Rodgers like a dagger in the back. But ultimately, the decision by GM Brian Gutekunst to use prime NFL Draft real estate at receiver could still be to Rodgers' benefit.
With Christian Watson off the PUP list and potentially getting back to playing in the near future, along with Golden's role coming into focus, and even Jayden Reed coming back eventually, the Packers could send a surprise player over to the Steelers in a trade...for the right price.
Steelers should ask Packers about trading for WR Dontayvion Wicks
Although Dontayvion Wicks never crossed paths in Green Bay with Aaron Rodgers, he might be the ideal trade candidate for the Steelers ahead of the 2025 NFL trade deadline.
But to be fair, Wicks might be about 10 years too young for what the Steelers seem most interested in adding to their roster these days.
All kidding aside, Wicks played a really exciting role in his first couple of seasons with the Packers, showing off his YAC abilities and making some big plays for Green Bay. Among his 39 receptions as a rookie back in 2023, Wicks had 29 first-down receptions and four touchdowns. He was equally efficient in 2024 with 38 total receptions, 25 first downs, and five touchdowns.
This year, it's clear that his usage in the offense has reached a bit of a plateau, and it might not get better as the year goes along.
Romeo Doubs has shifted from being dumped in the "trade block" category to possibly earning a new contract in Green Bay. The Packers might not have the snaps for Wicks in the near future, and with multiple years left on his rookie contract (including this season), they might be able to get something nice for him.
As talented as Wicks is, the Packers might have to think about getting some type of return on their investment in him as opposed to letting him rot on the sideline, or just be used in case of emergency.
Especially with Tucker Kraft's involvement in the passing game each week, this might be a move the Packers can afford to make to add to their future NFL Draft war chest or even see if they can steal a player from the Steelers who could help them out.
