The Green Bay Packers are looking for a veteran wide receiver this offseason and one they just so happen to be quite familiar with just got cut by his team. Davante Adams was released by the New York Jets on Tuesday, paving the way for him to potentially make his way back to Green Bay.
The Packers drafted Adams in the second round of the 2014 draft and he grew into Aaron Rodgers' favorite weapon during his time in Green Bay. In eight seasons with the Packers, Adams scored double-digit touchdowns in five of them and had over 1,300 yards in three seasons.
Adams was traded to the Raiders in 2022, which, as we know, didn't go great. He was traded to the Jets before the deadline this past season where he reunited with Rodgers in New York and that also didn't go according to plan.
Now Adams is available to bring in and he'd make a lot of sense for the Packers. Not only is Adams now without a team and looking to bounce back and prove himself in a big way but he's spent this offseason throwing his original team a lot of love.
Packers/Davante Adams reunion makes too much sense
There's no question that Adams would make the Packers a better team. Josh Jacobs pointed out how they need a number one option at wide receiver and Adams, who played with Jacobs in Las Vegas, would give them that.
This is easier said than done, of course. A lot of teams are going to be interested in bringing Adams in, not to mention if Rodgers does continue to play, he's going to want Adams to join him wherever he goes.
Still, there's no reason Packers fans can't start to dream about this actually happening. Between Adams showering his old team with praise and now the team needing a wideout and him being available, doesn't it feel like it's a match made in heaven?
Let's hope so.
