3 Packers who deserve blame for ugly primetime tie vs. Cowboys

The result obviously isn't as bad as a loss, but a tie is not the preferred outcome of a game in which your offense puts up a whopping 40 points.

The Green Bay Packers should be treating the outcome of their game against the Dallas Cowboys as though they did lose, so they can learn from mistakes and be better going forward. After dropping a disappointing matchup in Week 3 against the Cleveland Browns, the Packers looked exhausted defensively against the Dallas Cowboys, who didn't even have CeeDee Lamb helping them.

The Packers have some soul searching to do as a group, but there are a few players, in particular, who contributed most significantly to what could have been Green Bay's third win of the season.

Cornerbacks lead top players to blame for Packers' tie against Cowboys

1. Nate Hobbs, CB

It's still early in the 2025 season, but the encore for GM Brian Gutekunst after his stellar 2024 free agency is not exactly what Packers fans had hoped for.

Nate Hobbs was one of the primary additions in 2025 free agency for the Packers, and really the only notable addition at a position that's been a question mark now for a couple of years. When the Packers decided to let Eric Stokes walk in free agency before cutting Jaire Alexander, they made it pretty clear that they were going to need to overhaul the position.

Only, they didn't do that.

The Packers went with in-house guys and a budget-friendly move to bring in Hobbs, a former starter for the Las Vegas Raiders. Although Hobbs has played well in the past, his performance against the Cowboys was disastrous.

Dak Prescott threw for 319 yards on the evening with three touchdowns and no interceptions. The play of Green Bay's corners was a huge reason why.

2. Carrington Valentine, CB

With Nate Hobbs struggling, Packers fans were calling for the team to put Carrington Valentine into the game, and they did.

And the results were not good.

Valentine didn't do any better against George Pickens than pretty much anyone else who tried on the night, giving up a big catch-and-run late in the game for a touchdown and looking completely lost on the play.

At this stage, the Packers might need to consider making a deal with the Seattle Seahawks for Tariq Woolen, who is rumored to be available for a trade. The Packers have to figure out a solution, and the guys they currently have looked horrendous on Sunday night.

3. Rich Bisaccia, special teams coordinator

Special teams coordinator Rich Bisaccia is public enemy number one in Green Bay after Sunday night's game, because his unit is guilty of egregious mistakes the last two weeks in a row.

Not only did we see Bisaccia's field goal unit have a kick blocked against the Browns in Week 3, but a blocked extra point returned for a two-point conversion against the Cowboys ended up being the difference in the game.

If your recently re-signed special teams coordinator is costing you multiple games in the first month of the season, it might be time to find another solution. The way Bisaccia's unit has cost the Packers in tight games the last two weeks is simply unacceptable.
