Something had to give. The Green Bay Packers were acquiring wide receivers like there's no tomorrow. Inevitably, they had to make a change.

The team has announced it has waived/injured wide receiver Jadon Janke, who joined the team only 19 days earlier.

It comes only days after the Packers signed another young wide receiver, Sam Brown, who teamed with first-round pick Matthew Golden for two seasons in Houston. Brown could quietly earn a roster spot if he can put together a strong summer — he has impressive athleticism and yards-after-catch ability.

Janke had a mountain to climb to break into the 53-man roster conversation. If he clears waivers, the former undrafted free agent will revert back to the Packers' injured reserve list.

It's the first of many decisions the Packers must make at the position.

Even after this move, the Packers still have 12 wide receivers on the roster. At least half will fail to make the 53-man roster.

Christian Watson is likely among them. While head coach Matt LaFleur said Watson is "ahead of schedule" in his recovery from a torn ACL, it's hard to imagine him being ready in time for Week 1. He will likely begin the regular season on the PUP list, which would save a roster spot.

In terms of roster locks, we can guarantee Matthew Golden, Jayden Reed, Romeo Doubs, Dontayvion Wicks, and Savion Williams will make the 53 — barring a trade. We use the term "roster lock" loosely for Doubs, who many believe could hit the trade block.

Mecole Hardman? His roster spot is in jeopardy, and the same is true for Malik Heath and Bo Melton.

There's so much competition.

The Packers continue to reshuffle their wide receiver depth chart. They have already moved on from Janke less than three weeks after signing him, but their difficult decisions are far from over.
