The Green Bay Packers extended their winning streak over the Chicago Bears to 11 games, holding off the Chicago Bears 20 to 19 at Soldier Field. The Packers won this game on a blocked field goal by Karl Brooks with three seconds remaining to cement another win over the Bears.
Packers fans might not have been feeling as though the winning streak was going to continue because the Bears actually looked formidable on Sunday. Cairo Santos lined up to kick what would have been a game-winning 46-yard field goal but, as we all know now, the kick was blocked.
It didn't matter that the Packers needed a blocked field goal to win the game or that this wasn't the prettiest of wins, a win is a win. For a Packers team that needed a win after falling to the Detroit Lions two weeks ago, they'll take the ugly victories.
For those who have been waiting with anticipation for the radio call from play-by-play announcer Wayne Larrivee and color commentator Larry McCarren, it's here and it's glorious.
Packers radio call of blocked field goal doesn't disappoint
"Here's the snap, placement made. The kick is BLOCKED! It is blocked! It is blocked and the Packers have won! It is blocked! It comes up short and the Packers have won 11 straight over the Bears."
Some of those "blocked" exclamations came from McCarren, but the call is still quite the gem. Radio broadcasters' jobs are to explain to those not watching the game what's happening, and they sure painted us a pretty picture of what went down. The ball was indeed blocked and they made sure they got that through to anyone listening.
While the Bears came close to ending their losing streak against Green Bay, fans can sit back and relax until at least Week 18 knowing that the streak is still alive and well. And if you decide you need to listen to the radio call over and over again, Packers fans wouldn't blame you one bit. It's a pretty great call.
