The Green Bay Packers will head into the 2026 season with Josh Jacobs as the bellcow for the third straight season. While they are confident in what he brings to the table, the rest of the running back room has some serious questions.
Chris Brooks, Pierre Strong Jr., Damien Martinez, undrafted rookie Jaden Nixon, and MarShawn Lloyd are the other players in the running back room, but there's no clear-cut answer on who can be RB2. It looks like the Packers will give Lloyd another chance in 2026, but that's risky considering his injury history.
Despite the questions, the Packers could have a trade option available that they should consider. ESPN's Rich Cimini floated that it wouldn't be shocking if the Jets started taking calls on Braelon Allen and Isaiah Davis after they extended Breece Hall. If that's the case, Green Bay should call New York and see what it takes to get Davis over to Titletown.
Packers should call Jets to inquire on running back Isaiah Davis
Davis seems more fitting, since Allen has a similar playing style to Jacobs as a powerful, downhill runner. As for Davis, he's more of a do-it-all back, as he can run in between the tackles but also be a receiving threat if asked.
In 33 games in New York, Davis has compiled 410 rushing yards (5.6 yards per attempt) with two rushing touchdowns. He also has 30 receptions (40 targets) for 261 receiving yards and another score. It's also worth mentioning that Davis can contribute on special teams as a kick returner. He has 555 kick return yards in his career, logging 27.8 yards per return on average.
During his time in New York, he's been asked to be a depth option and third-down back at times, but he has shown he can make plays. It likely wouldn't cost Green Bay more than a late Day 3 pick to get a deal across the finish line, and with the Jets paying Hall, this would be the ideal time to pluck Davis from their grasp.
The Packers know they need more in the running back room. Brooks has 395 rushing yards in his career in 41 games. Meanwhile, Strong Jr. has logged 499 rushing yards and two scores over 46 career games. And everyone in Green Bay knows the injury struggles that Lloyd has dealt with. Meanwhile, Martinez and Nixon haven't had one carry in the NFL yet.
The idea of adding someone like Davis is a low-risk move that could have a positive impact on the team. We all know that Jacobs will be the primary ball carrier, but with some concerns behind him, a dart throw on Davis is something worth considering for the front office.
