4 Packers fan favorites who are in danger of being cut before Week 1
- Bo Melton has good speed but will it be enough?
- Yosh Nijman could be trade bait this offseason
- Tyler Goodson has much to prove if he's worthy of a roster spot
4. Tyler Goodson, RB
Throughout the 2022 preseason, former Iowa Hawkeyes running back Tyler Goodson made a very strong case for the Green Bay Packers' 53-man roster. He was running all over the place in the preseason and endearing himself to the Packers fan base in the process.
Despite his explosive preseason, the Packers were able to sneak Goodson onto the practice squad for most of the year. He was promoted to the active roster once, then re-signed to the practice squad, and signed to a reserve/futures deal after the season.
The Packers obviously don't have much to worry about at the running back position with Aaron Jones and AJ Dillon when those two guys are healthy, and big Patrick Taylor has gotten a decent amount of run in the last two seasons (23) games. The Packers also used a seventh-round pick in the 2023 NFL Draft on running back Lew Nichols III, who has power and yards after contact ability at 220 pounds.
Even after the tremendous preseason we saw from Goodson last year, he wasn't able to crack the roster. The Packers obviously like him a decent amount, Packers fans would certainly be on board for him being on the roster.
The other side of this is the off chance that the Packers would get a good offer for someone like AJ Dillon, who is in the final year of his contract. Could the Packers trade him before the season and keep someone like Tyler Goodson? In that case, another fan favorite would be gone, either way.
A number of Green Bay Packers players that have grown in this organization could end up leaving in 2023. Players fans have become excited about could disappoint. Such is life in the NFL when training camp and the preseason roll around.
