There are four games left in the 2023 regular season, and these four games could go a long way in determining whether or not defensive coordinator Joe Barry is back with the team next season. And for many Green Bay Packers fans, the hope is that the team goes in a different direction.

Barry's defense has been under the microscope all year, and quite frankly, a change at defensive coordinator is probably past due at this point. The Packers do rank 11th in the NFL right now in total points allowed per game defensively, but they are one of the league's worst run defenses, they are one of the worst teams in the league on third downs, and they aren't forcing a lot of turnovers.

Some new blood is likely needed in that defensive coordinator spot, but Matt LaFleur's going to have to make a tough decision. His decision could be made a little easier if the right guys hit the coaching free agent market, and that is expected to be a "Wild Wild West" situation in 2024. It's expected that upwards of 10 teams could make head coaching changes, which means a lot of current NFL head coaches could be looking for work in a few weeks.

Could any of them become Green Bay Packers defensive coordinator? Let's take a look at a handful of possibilities.

Robert Saleh

At the end of the day, someone is going to have to answer for the New York Jets' offensive incompetence. I'm sure the Jets recognize that Nathaniel Hackett is much more at fault than Robert Saleh for the team's struggles, but why was there no contingency plan in place besides Zach Wilson? The Jets' lack of a competent backup plan cost them a possible playoff spot this season, at least it appears that way.

Saleh and Matt LaFleur are great friends so this is a connection that would make a lot of sense. And Saleh knows how to call a defense. As bad as the Jets have been this season, their defense has given them chances in a lot of games they probably shouldn't have been in in the first place.

Packers fans have to be hoping things go off the rails for the Jets the rest of this season so Saleh can come in and take the Green Bay defense to an elite level in 2024.
