6 Green Bay Packers players who won't survive training camp
By Ryan Heckman
The big news at Green Bay Packers training camp, lately, has been the new contract given to quarterback Jordan Love and the reaction from fans, coaches and teammates. The Packers have, indeed, done it again.
Aside from the Love contract and watching him light it up with his young, talented receiving core, there are plenty of other guys to pay attention to at training camp. Some have stood out more than others. But, which players are trending toward being cut, when it's all said and done?
We break down six specific names who will likely be headed for the practice squad, at best.
Packers players who won't make the final roster
Samori Toure, WR
Let's start with the position that people cannot stop talking about. Wide receiver is so deep in Green Bay, that the fantasy football experts are trying to figure out which of the top four is going to finish as the top dog. Between Christian Watson, Romeo Doubs, Jayden Reed and Dontayvion Wicks, Green Bay is deep and diversely talented.
Samori Toure hasn't been receiving too much attention throughout camp and appears to be a fringe player, at the moment. If Green Bay keeps six wideouts, Toure looks to be number seven right now, and. maybe even eight, and could be headed for the chopping block.
Andre Dillard, OT
Reports out of camp suggest that Andre Dillard is not a good blocker. Huh ... shocking. The guy who allowed the most sacks at his position, a year ago, is unlikely to make the roster? That shouldn't come as a surprise to Packer fans. Dillard was a depth signing and is proving to be merely a camp body, at best. It's been quite the fall for the former first-round pick.
Ellis Merriweather, RB
Running back is going to look much different this year, of course, after watching Aaron Jones leave and the Packers chose to sign Josh Jacobs, instead. Between Jacobs, rookie MarShawn Lloyd and the returning A.J. Dillon, the Packers are pretty much set at this position. If the team chose to keep four at the position, it would likely be Emanuel Wilson.
Arron Mosby, DE
Preston Smith, Rashon Gary and Lukas Van Ness should prove to be a formidable trio off the edge this year, and we'll see who the Packers decide to keep behind them. But, one thing is almost certain, and that's Arron Mosby not being part of the group. He remains almost last on the depth chart right now, and is going to be a practice squad candidate, at the most.
Zayne Anderson, S
After hearing head coach Matt LaFleur praise Anthony Johnson Jr. recently, that all but guarantees Zayne Anderson being off the roster. Green Bay invested a couple of draft picks at the safety position while also signing Xavier McKinney. The guys ahead of Anderson are all likely to make the roster, leaving him as an odd man out.
Ralen Goforth, LB
Similar to some other guys on this list, linebacker Ralen Goforth is simply a victim of the depth chart. He is far too low to be considered for a full-time spot. Unless he pulls a miracle in the preseason and the rest of camp, he'll be a cut.
