Latest injury update reveals whether Jordan Love is at risk should he play vs. Titans
By Ryan Heckman
The hottest topic of the week seems to have new chapters written by the hour. Green Bay Packers quarterback Jordan Love was at practice for the second-straight day on Thursday, and in pads, too.
That has to be good news, right?
Both head coach Matt LaFleur and Love, himself, have seemed very optimistic about the veteran taking the field this Sunday against the Tennessee Titans but, for now, have taken a "day by day" approach.
Love, of course, has been on his way back from a Grade 1 MCL sprain and seems to be working back a whole lot quicker than some originally thought. At first, Love was projected to be out 3-6 weeks. Now, he could be on track to miss just one game, overall.
And, if one particular NFL insider's latest report has anything to say about it, it sure looks positive for Love suiting up against the Titans.
First of all, NFL Network's Ian Rapoport did note that Love is not going to be fully healthy if he returns on Sunday.
“He is not going to be 100 percent healthy, that we know," Rapoport said on the latest episode of The Insiders Podcast.
Is there any risk if Jordan Love plays against the Titans?
Here is where it gets very interesting.
Many times, fans can be hesitant when it comes to wanting their favorite players to return from injury sooner rather than later because of the risk of re-injury. In this instance, though, Rapoport noted that there would not be further risk of re-injuring the knee, should Love suit up against Tennessee:
“He can't injure it further because of the brace he's wearing.”
More Packers news:
Well, that about does it then, right? You can't get much clearer than this without coming straight out and telling us Love is going to be on that field come Sunday.
Case closed ... Love is going to start in Week 3 against the Titans.
OK, nothing is official just yet. However, everything we've heard, read and seen this week in regards to Love practicing seems to lead us to believe that he is, indeed, going to be under center for the Packers in a couple of days.
Once thought to be out multiple weeks, Love is going to return much sooner than expected, and he's going to be toughing it out for his team.
it is worth noting that, while Love looks to be on track to play, Lafleur will still probably limit the offense a little bit. Giving a healthy dose of carries to Josh Jacobs should be priority number one, allowing the game not to rest on Love's shoulders while he's not 100 percent.
If, for some reason it isn't Love on Sunday, then it'll be backup Malik Willis for another week. Speaking of adjusting the game plan, that's exactly what LaFleur did in Week 2 when the Packers ran all over another AFC South team in the Colts.
Regardless of who is under center for the Packers in Week 3, the Packers' chances look mighty nice against an 0-2 Titans squad.
