The Green Bay Packers can overcome a loss in the season opener. That's no big deal. What they can't afford is to lose star quarterback Jordan Love for a significant amount of time.

Packers fans held their breath after Love stayed down in the final moments of the fourth quarter. While extending a play, he suffered a leg injury that forced him to exit the game. Malik Willis replaced him for the final Hail Mary attempt.

Matt LaFleur's tone and non-answers only added to the uncertainty, but in reality, he didn't have the answers.

The Packers need more information, which they will get when they return home from Brazil.

Packers reportedly rule out ankle injury, but knee is the concern

According to The Athletic's Dianna Russini, the Packers have ruled out an ankle injury, which answers one question. However, Love will undergo further testing once he returns to Green Bay. NFL Network's Ian Rapoport added that he will have scans on his knee. An ankle sprain may have been the best-case scenario, but knee injuries can be more problematic.

NFL Network's Tom Pelissero reports that Love's ACL is intact. That's the good news.

However, a wide range of other potential knee issues need to be ruled out. Hopefully, it's just a short-term issue that Love can either play through or won't cost him much time. Only time will tell.

We nervously await further details. Avoiding an ACL injury is good news for Love's chances to play again this season, but it's unclear how much time he will miss until the team knows the severity of the injury.

If Love has to sit for a while, Malik Willis will presumably step in as the starting quarterback. It's a less-than-ideal scenario, as Willis has had almost no time to learn the playbook and build chemistry with the Packers' receivers.

Green Bay may need to consider its options at quarterback.
