The Green Bay Packers have been one of the best franchises in the history of the NFL, but even the best of the best make mistakes.

When it comes to assembling a roster, especially in today's NFL, teams make sacrifices and take risks when they let certain players go, and not every decision turns out to be the right one (obviously).

There are a handful of players in recent Packers history that the team obviously gave up on way too soon. Let's take a look at a few names of players who could have potentially helped this team do a little more winning than they have in recent years.

Former Packers who were let go too soon

1. Micah Hyde, safety

The Green Bay Packers initially stole Micah Hyde in the fifth round of the 2013 NFL Draft out of Iowa. It was a shocker that Hyde lasted to the fifth round after the way he played as a Hawkeye, showing out in the defensive backfield whether he was asked to play corner or safety, as well as starring for the Hawkeyes on special teams.

The Packers got a player who was an immediate factor defensively and had eight interceptions from 2014-16 before hitting free agency.

Between Ha Ha Clinton-Dix, Morgan Burnett, and 2017 second-round pick Josh Jones, the Packers probably felt like they had things covered at the safety position for the long haul, but that wasn't exactly the case. Hyde went on to become an All-Pro with the Buffalo and racked up 24 interceptions in his time with the Bills, where Buffalo built one of the top defenses in the league.

The Packers, as of 2024 even, have been searching for more long-term answers at the position. They brought in big-money free agent Xavier McKinney this year and spent a handful of draft picks on the position, including second-round pick Javon Bullard.
