This offseason, veteran placekicker for the Green Bay Packers, Mason Crosby, became a free agent. But are there already rumors churning in the old rumor mill about where he might be playing next.

After 16 years with the Packers it is indeed official: He is now a free agent, the Packers seemingly intent on ridding the roster of veteran players. First Aaron Rodgers went and now the stable and accurate Crosby as well.

A list of other veterans included also Adrian Amos, Robert Tonyan, Randall Cobb among other key vets. But at least finally for Crosby, it seems like a place for him is in sight. He was the only veteran Packer to have not yet found a new home.

But 'where to?' has been the question amongst his fans and Packers fans in particular along with a few choruses of “Baby, please don’t go…”

With the mediocre performance in a recent preseason game from Cleveland Browns kicker Cade York in the rearview mirror, head coach of the Browns, Kevin Stefanski, may be looking for a change sooner rather than later.

“While toeing the company line is all well and good when the games don’t count, Browns fans can expect Stefanski’s tune to change quickly if York’s issues continue and end up costing Cleveland wins during a regular season in which the head coach must deliver if he hopes to keep his own job secure,” wrote Max Dibble of Heavy.

It does seem like a wee bit of conjecture right now that he is for sure going to replace the poorly performing York, but it is a possibility and that possibility got a lot of people talking about a veteran Packer kicking for the Cleveland Browns.

Crosby had a tremendous career in Colorado playing college ball, and after his 2006 graduation he was chosen in the sixth round of the 2007 NFL Draft and became a top scorer his rookie season.

395 career field goals are under his belt and he is of course a Super Bowl Champion. Many sources in the sporting press have stated that Crosby is indeed the best option for the struggling Cleveland Browns in the kicker position right now.

In the end, Packers fans aren’t all too thrilled with this news however, as Crosby’s next in line, Anders Carlson, is not doing so well with those mighty shoes he had to fill.

Packers fans are hoping for a little of the old “we want things back to the way they were.”

Well, maybe a few of us would have preferred a few more years with Rodgers at the helm, but sadly we can’t always get what we want, to quote Mick Jagger.

But let’s not forget a very key part of that Rolling Stones song,  “But if you try sometime you'll find, you get what you need…”

And maybe a reshuffling of the roster was what the Packers needed, but it’s way too early to tell at this juncture. But hey, time is on our side, especially with this younger roster of players to get their footing. There’s another Rolling Stones reference for you.

We'll keep you posted, dear readers, if anything concrete comes of this.
