What Romeo Doubs suspension means for potential Packers Davante Adams trade
And, breathe. It has been quite the few days at 1265 Lombardi Ave.
Romeo Doubs went from skipping practice to landing a one-game suspension from the Green Bay Packers. While the official word out of Green Bay is that Doubs' conduct was "detrimental to the team," they haven't revealed the specific details.
That comes from Bill Huber's report for Sports Illustrated, which revealed Doubs' absence came from frustration over his role in the Packers' offense.
It has led to varying reactions from the fanbase, and understandably so. Many have leaped to his defense, while others are hurt that, if the report is accurate, Doubs effectively quit on his team. Both arguments are valid.
It's also reasonable to question Doubs' long-term future with the Packers, which has led many to wonder whether the timing could line up with a Davante Adams reunion. So, could it happen?
Packers fans shouldn't expect a Davante Adams reunion despite Romeo Doubs' suspension
It's the NFL. Anything can happen. While there is logic in viewing the Packers as a potential landing spot for Adams, nothing suggests it's realistic.
For starters, the Packers believe they can figure things out with Doubs. NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reported that "things have moved in a positive direction" between the Packers and Doubs, indicating both sides believe they can resolve the issue. Doubs will return next week.
That alone removes any situation where the Packers would likely consider making any significant moves at wide receiver.
Rapoport reported earlier in the week that Adams views the New York Jets as his preferred destination, where he would reunite with Aaron Rodgers. Other teams are interested, only increasing the Las Vegas Raiders' asking price and decreasing the Packers' chances of considering a move.
As for Doubs, Green Bay reportedly has no interest in trading him.
The Packers believe they can figure things out with Doubs, while Adams has his heart set on New York. An Adams trade was unlikely anyway, but those added factors make it close to impossible.
