There's a decent, if not good, chance that Romeo Doubs has already played his final snap with the Green Bay Packers. It's difficult to see where the veteran wide receiver fits into the club's long-term picture, which he ostensibly recognizes.
Doubs has publicly acknowledged that his days in Titletown could be numbered, all but saying goodbye to Packers fans on social media. Several Green Bay players shared their farewells to the pending free agent, seemingly understanding that he's priced himself out of the club's range.
However, the greatest indicator of Doubs' imminent exit from Green Bay may have come courtesy of his recent appearance on Up & Adams.
Romeo Doubs opens up about looming Packers breakup
Point-blank, Doubs was asked if he'll be back with the Packers in 2026. By the sound of it, that's his preferred outcome. Yet, the 25-year-old also acknowledged that's not entirely up to him and put the ball in Green Bay's court.
"I will leave that unknown. I would love to be a Green Bay Packer but I'm just aware of this business. I understand how things go," Doubs said.
It takes two to tango, as Doubs alludes to. While he'd be more than happy to stay with the Packers, the feeling must be mutual. His comments suggest that Green Bay might be prepared to move on from him.
The Packers have invested heavily in their receiver room in recent drafts. They've spent at least a second-round pick on the position in three of the past four offseasons, including a Day 1 selection on Matthew Golden. His strong playoff showing, plus the presence of Christian Watson and Jayden Reed, complicates matters for Doubs.
Moreover, Packers star tight end Tucker Kraft isn't going anywhere. He's targeting a Week 1 return from tearing his ACL this past November. Green Bay treated him as the focal point of its passing attack before going down, and a full recovery further renders Doubs expendable.
For whatever it's worth, Doubs left the door (ever so slightly) open to rejoin Green Bay. His answer to a follow-up question about what he's looking for on the open market. Opportunity/fit trump cash — though we'll see about that when push comes to shove.
"You know, free agency and money and all this other stuff," Doubs said. "But when it really comes down to it, I just want to play football ... the situation is everything."
