Romeo Doubs is entering the final season of his rookie contract, which means one thing: trade rumors. Typically, when a player enters the last year of a deal, teams either explore extending a player or trading them, so they won’t lose them for nothing in free agency.
It's unclear if the Green Bay Packers are considering either approach or if they’re planning to let Doubs play out his contract, but there have been trade rumors surrounding the young wideout considering the circumstances.
Doubs hasn’t allowed any of this to stop him from attending Green Bay’s OTAs and showing out. Packers beat writer Paul Bretl attended the team’s OTA practice on Wednesday—the second OTA practice and first open to the media —and detailed some key observations. One major taketakeaway was how many plays Doubs made.
"At various points with the first team offense, we saw Reed, Doubs, Wicks, Golden, Bo Melton, and Malik Heath all get snaps with the ones. Melton was with he starting offense quite often throughout the practice, while Heath saw the least amount of opportunities. Of that group, Doubs and Wicks made the most plays."Paul Bretl
Romeo Doubs is making a lot of plays for Packers in OTAs
It’s important to note that it’s only OTAs, and the season is still months away, but this is exactly what everyone wants to see from the veteran wideout who’s expected to be a reliable playmaker and a leader in the receiver room. He’s making the plays on the field, and Packers’ head coach Matt LaFleur has already commended him for being a leader.
In an appearance on Up & Adams, LaFleur explained how Doubs has been coaching up the young wideouts on the team before the coaches even get to them. The head coach expressed that it’s cool to watch the vets embrace the younger guys, and that older players developing that kind of leadership is important.
Hopefully, Doubs will be able to continue putting it all together this offseason and eventually help the Packers contend this season. If that happens, he’ll probably be around in Green Bay much longer.
