One would be hard-pressed to find someone to argue against our pick at No. 2.

Welcome back to our series on the best players to wear every Green Bay Packers jersey number from No. 0 all the way to No. 99.

Well, we're moving along here, at least in terms of options, that is, as there's obviously a long way to go. With No. 0, we had no decision to make, as only one player has worn the number in the 100-plus-year history of this great franchise. With No. 1, while easily only a two-man race, we did have three options from which to choose.

And here at No. 2, the total has been upped to six, though when you look at the full list below, you'll see there's really nothing to debate here.

  • Mason Crosby, K
  • Pahl Davis, G/FB
  • Buck Gavin, FB
  • Charlie Mathys, QB
  • Walt McGaw, G
  • Malik Willis, QB

If you're unfamiliar with the four middle names mentioned, you're likely not alone, as even the most knowledgeable of Cheeseheads may not know that Pahl Davis, Buck Gavin, Charlie Mathys, and Walt McGaw all played with the Packers back in the 1920s. I write about this team for a living, and I'm not going to pretend that I knew all of those names.

Malik Willis did a fantastic job during his two-year run with the Packers, going 2-1 in his three starts and completing a phenomenal 78.7 percent of his passes for 972 yards with six touchdowns against zero interceptions in his 11 total appearances, adding another 261 yards and three scores on the ground.

But the no-brainer call here is obviously kicker Mason Crosby, who spent 16 years in Green Bay and is easily the franchise's all-time leading scorer.

Mason Crosby racked up more than 2,000 total points with the Packers

A two-time First-Team All-American and a three-time First-Team All-Big 12 selection at the University of Colorado, Crosby was taken by the Packers in the sixth round of the 2007 draft with the 193rd overall pick and made an immediate impact after beating out Dave Rayner for the starting job as a rookie.

And we're talking immediate impact in the most literal sense of those words. In his first-ever regular-season game, the Texas native connected on his lone extra-point attempt and all three of his field goals, hitting from 53, 37, and 42 yards, respectively, with the last coming with only two seconds remaining in regulation to give Green Bay a 16-13 victory over the Philadelphia Eagles.

For his efforts, Crosby was named NFC Special Teams Player of the Week, but more impressively, he became the first player in league history to boot both a field goal of at least 50 yards and a game-winning field goal with under a minute to play in his NFL debut. So, again, immediate impact means immediate impact, and we can now go ahead and apply that to the entire season as well, as he led the NFL in points scored that year with 141. And the points just kept on coming from there.

Over the course of 16 years in Green Bay, Crosby racked up 1,918 points (1,185 from field goals and 733 from extra points) in 258 regular-season games, easily putting him atop the Packers' all-time list. For reference, Ryan Longwell sits in a distant second with 1,054. Tack on the 21 points he had for the New York Giants in his final season in 2023, and his 1,939 regular-season points are good for the 11th-most in NFL history.

In 23 postseason games for the Packers, Crosby added another 163 points, hitting 31 of 35 field goals and all 70 of his extra-point attempts to bring his total in Green Bay to a whopping 2,081 points.

So, yeah, you can see why this was a no-brainer.
