Wild Davante Adams-Jaire Alexander trade idea would be genius for Packers

It's a win-win.

The Green Bay Packers have reportedly started trade conversations "centered around" Jaire Alexander. They may have to release him.

Davante Adams finds himself in a similar situation. NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports that the New York Jets are "taking calls" about a trade but will release Adams if they can't find a partner.

What if there were a win-win solution? A way for the Packers to trade Alexander without the fears of him signing with an NFC rival? What if the Jets could get something in return for the star wide receiver they burned a third-round pick on for just 11 games?

There are several moving parts, but Bleacher Report's Alex Kay has a potential resolution.

Bleacher Report proposes a win-win Packers-Jets trade featuring Davante Adams and Jaire Alexander

Kay pitched a unique player-for-player trade that would see the two former teammates swap teams.

The Jets will need cornerback help if D.J. Reed departs in free agency, and pairing Alexander with Sauce Gardner, who collectively have four All-Pro selections between them, would surely tempt them.

In this scenario, New York lands an oft-injured but superstar cornerback in exchange for a wide receiver it will release anyway.

It works just as favorably for the Packers. There's a real possibility they will get next to nothing in return for Alexander. We can forget about the chances of a premium draft pick, and they could have to release their former first-round choice. Here, they bring back one of their franchise greats, who fixes an immediate need and becomes the man coverage-beating target Jordan Love needs.

Again, there are moving parts. Adams would have to give the green light to return, but he has spent all offseason showering Love and the Packers with praise. Unless he plans to reunite with Aaron Rodgers, wherever that may be, a return to Green Bay makes all the sense in the world.

The Packers would also have to rework his deal to significantly lower his $36.2 million cap hit.

If Adams is open to a Packers return and is willing to rework his contract, it's game on. This trade would allow Green Bay to land the veteran wide receiver it needs while Alexander gets a fresh start alongside Gardner and a talented Jets defense.

It's a simple trade proposal that doesn't require either team to give up draft capital. Both sides receive value for players they would likely otherwise have to cut while also adding an All-Pro to their roster.
