Bart Starr at his best – being an inspiration

AUTHOR: | IN: Former Packers coaches, Former Packers players | COMMENTS: None Yet

Awhile back I posted an announcement about a special program that was to be held at Bart Starr’s hometown high school, Sidney Lanier High School, in Montgomery, Ala., as part of a program of the Pro Football Hall of Fame, “Hometown Hall of Famers.” Well, the program was held and thanks to Taryn Parker, a regular reader of this blog, a video of some of the highlights have been made available here. “it’s a great glimpse of how the community embraced and honored this legendary Hall of Famer and we hope you’ll consider posting this to share with fans who [...]

Walden apologizes; his status remains uncertain

AUTHOR: | IN: Packers and the courts | COMMENTS: None Yet

Green Bay Packers linebacker Erik Walden, the champions’ player arrested last Friday after an alleged altercation with his girlfriend, apologized today to the organization, coaches, fellow players, and fans as he was questioned by a throng of reporters at his locker. “I want to apologize to the entire organization, my teammates and the fans,” Walden said. “You know, it’s an ongoing process, I respect that process, and it’s just unfortunate that I brought something negative from so much positive that’s going on with this organization.” He didn’t say anything about the specifics of the incident and indicated he was accepting [...]

Domestic Violence

AUTHOR: | IN: News | COMMENTS: None Yet

The recent arrest of Erik Walden for alleged domestic violence may be a black eye for all Packer fans, but it brings to light an issue that is too often swept under the rug. Domestic violence should not happen to anybody. Domestic violence is intolerable. Law enforcement officers, physicians, nurses, dentists, social workers, and people in many other professions are legally obligated to report suspected domestic violence and child abuse. However, everyone, EVERYONE, is morally obligated to report or intervene in suspected domestic violence. The United States Office on Violence Against Women (OVW) defines domestic violence as a pattern of [...]

PFT again has Packers at #1

AUTHOR: | IN: Packers | COMMENTS: None Yet

It’s not unusual nor a surprise that PFT – Pro Football Talk’s – Mike Florio has again placed the Green Bay Packers as his top team in his weekly power rankings. I just like what his comment was with the Packers listing: 1. Packers (No. 1; 11-0):  Any sounds you hear coming from South Florida won’t be coming from a cork leaving a bottle of champagne. Find the complete listing after the jump … and Like Lombardiave.com at Facebook and follow us on Twitter.

Ndamukong Suh receives two-game suspension

AUTHOR: | IN: Detroit Lions | COMMENTS: None Yet

We all knew the punishment for Ndamukong Suh was coming. Some speculated as heavy of a penalty as suspension for the remainder of the season for his stomping of Green Bay Packers right guard Evan Dietrich-Smith in the Thanksgiving Day game won by the Packers. We suspected, as did many others, that it would be at least a couple of games. The two-game suspension is what is being reported. While Suh has three days to file an appeal for the suspension of two games, we certainly hope he doesn’t. The entire world knows what he did and no matter how [...]

Erik Walden is released from jail

AUTHOR: | IN: Packers and the courts | COMMENTS: None Yet

So, Erik Walden spends the weekend in jail, but is released today with no charges filed against him … Wow, not a glowing illustration of a great system of justice. Two questions come to mind at this point: Is there enough evidence to charge Walden, the Green Bay Packers linebacker, with battery against his girlfriend? and what do the Packers do at this point as to whether to play him in the next game against the New York Giants? Walden’s girlfriend, the woman who was treated for injuries at St. Vincent Hospital early last Friday morning, now claims that she [...]

The ones Ted Thompson didn’t want: Nick Barnett

AUTHOR: | IN: Former Packers players | COMMENTS: None Yet

The third of a three-part series With inside linebacker suddenly an area of concern for the Green Bay Packers, let’s look back at one of the main reasons: Their releasing of Nick Barnett prior to the 2011 season. As a first round draft pick in 2003, it did not take long for Nick Barnett to crack the starting lineup. He played in 15 games in 2003 and quickly established himself as the leader of Green Bay’s linebacking corps. But his departure is a classic illustration of Ted Thompson’s draft and develop method. Barnett had an excellent 2010 campaign and came [...]

Dungy thinks Lions organization should share the blame for Suh’s actions

AUTHOR: | IN: Detroit Lions | COMMENTS: None Yet

Tony Dungy, the former NFL coach-turned-broadcaster with NBC Sports, has come out and said that the Detroit organization should shoulder some of the blame for the actions of Ndamukong Suh. Suh’s stomping of Green Bay Packers right guard Evan Dietrich-Smith has raised the ire of many fans, players and coaches around the league and will result in a fine and probably a suspension from Commissioner Roger Goodell. In addressing the situation, Dungy said on the Dan Patrick Show, “I really have to fault the Detroit organization. I think they really could have stopped this.” No doubt the former Tampa Bay [...]

Nick Novak: Reliever of the year

AUTHOR: | IN: Embarrassing moments | COMMENTS: None Yet

I mean, Nick Novak,  c’mon man! Really?!? Novak was caught by CBS cameras yesterday taking a piss on the sidelines … as if the San Diego Chargers needed any more bad press. This has got to be the most ridiculous moment of the NFL season. If you really want to see it, here’s the video:

Gotta love Costas

AUTHOR: | IN: giving thanks | COMMENTS: None Yet

If you missed Bob Costas’s rant about the TD celebrations that have gotten so out of control so as to become a mockery of the NFL, I beg you to take a look and relish in his brutally honest soliloquy. By the way, for Packers fans, you will be pleased to know that Costas describes the Lambeau Leap as a spontaneous celebration worthy of an honest and genuine sharing of glory with the fans. Like I said, you have to love Costas. To read the essay … Go to the jump … And don’t forget to Like Lombardiave on Facebook
