Packers: Five players to watch vs. Lions in Week 5
By Jesse Fry
1, 2 and 3. The three rookie draft picks
With Adams, Cobb and Allison on the injury report, all three rookie draft picks will get a chance to play.
Cobb is certain not to play, while Adams and Allison did not practice Thursday. At best, Adams will be listed as questionable.
Even if Adams is able to play, the three rookies will get plenty of field time come Sunday. Rodgers practicing in full on Thursday will be good to help build chemistry with receivers he hasn’t had extended time with since training camp. Even then, Rodgers was critical of the rookies’ practice habits.
This will be the time for J’Mon Moore, Equanimeous St. Brown and Marquez Valdes-Scantling to make a lasting impression. Valdes-Scantling has played in all four games in 2018, although mostly on special teams. Moore got his first taste last week versus the Bills, while St. Brown was active Week 1 and last week.
Between the three, only Valdes-Scantling has caught a pass from Rodgers during the regular season.
If facing a top-rated defense wasn’t tough enough, the Packers will have to do it with three rookies playing major roles. These rookies will have to grow up quick for the Packers to walk away with a victory in this one.
