Running backs (3)

Aaron Jones, Jamaal Williams, Dexter Williams

With more emphasis being placed on the run game, it’s certainly possible the Packers go with four running backs to ensure there is more depth. But here, I have them going with their top three — Aaron Jones, Jamaal Williams and rookie Dexter Williams.

This is an exciting group of young running backs who could all thrive in Matt LaFleur’s offense.

Jones is one of the most explosive running backs in the league — his career yards-per-carry average is 5.5, and he led the league in that category last season. Jones is a big-play threat at all times and posted a season-long run of 67 yards in 2019. He should be a featured part of LaFleur’s offense.

Jamaal Williams has been inconsistent, but when given a bigger role over the past two years, he’s delivered. In his career, he has nine games in which he has started and had 15 or more carries. In those games, he had a combined 158 attempts for 626 yards and four touchdowns. Take that nine-game sample size and apply it to a 16-game season and he’d be on pace for 1,112 yards and seven touchdowns.

Dexter Williams has drawn comparisons to Jones and will fit well in LaFleur’s offense. Williams had 995 rushing yards and 12 touchdowns for Notre Dame last year.

There’s a lot to like about this talented, young group at running back.
